Sonic Mania was released the same day as the phenomenally popular indie RPG Undertale got a rerelease on the PS4 and Vita, and both games have similar origin stories: Undertale auteur Toby Fox got his start making ROM hacks of Nintendo’s cult RPG Earthbound, the most popular of which is 2008’s The Halloween Hack. While Sonic Mania feels suspiciously like an unearthed retro Sonic game, it is little more than an officially licensed fan game. This led to iOS ports of the first two Sonic The Hedgehog games for Sega Genesis also running on Whitehead’s engine, which in turn led to the development of Sonic Mania, a completely original game running on the engine. A longtime member of the Sonic gaming community Sonic Retro, Whitehead achieved internet notoriety with his fan game Retro Sonic, which features an earlier version of the engine that would end up being used in Sonic Mania.Īfter pitching a proof of concept to Sega for a port of Sonic CD running on his retro engine, Whitehead was poached by the Japanese company to develop an official port of the game. Whitehead falls into this category of fan gamer. The Furbies is one of the games that was removed from Game Jolt-many fan game developers are just focused on deconstructing, and recreating, classic game engines. While there’s some weird stuff out there- Mario & Luigi Vs. And, at the end of last year, Nintendo launched a full-scale DMCA crackdown against internet game host Game Jolt that resulted in the removal of over 500 fan games. Nintendo-which, for years, seemed more or less indifferent towards fan-made content in an “ It’s quiet… too quiet” sort of way broke their silence when they stopped production of an unofficial Zelda movie. Some developers go after fan-made projects more aggressively than others (Square-Enix shut down a complete 3D remake of the Super Nintendo classic Chrono Trigger in 2004, for example). Unlike emulation, which in most circumstances is considered piracy, the legality of fan gaming is more ambiguous. But to current and former fan gamers, it’s inspirational-it bridges what we thought was an impassable gulf. (I was still going through puberty.) To anyone with even a casual affection for video games, Sonic Mania is a great game. The looming threat of legal action prevented fan games from ever transcending the tight-knit circles of the bedroom developers who made them, and the thought of using my own characters and concepts hadn’t yet occurred to me. In the mid-2000s, the ceiling for fan games was understandably low. A defiantly dysfunctional Mario fan game I co-created in middle school entitled Let’s Go Thingio! is still my most celebrated creative work, which is telling. I, too, have roots in the fan game community, although I am nowhere close to being in the same league as Whitehead. (Sega’s previous dalliances with bringing Sonic back to his 2D roots have been bed-shitting failures for this reason alone.) But Sonic Mania’s chief architect is a young Australian developer named Christian Whitehead-who cut his teeth as a member of the Sonic fan game community. Its approximation of the original Sonic games’ physics engine is uncanny, and as any Sonic fan will tell you, this is no small feat. Sonic Mania plays like a game that would have been made by veteran game developers. Mania has been slobbered over by every outlet under the sun (including, thank heavens, Forbes, who called it a “ brilliant and focused return to form”). Sonic Mania-the newest Sonic game, which is available on PC and every major game console-seems to have singlehandedly quashed that cynicism, but you don’t need the Mercury to tell you that.

How compelling the ad is and how many other advertisers are trying to reach the same audience will also influence the final ad cost. These factors include the type of bid (target, maximum, or automated bid) and the target audience size. Besides their capacity to bid, several other factors influence the final cost of each Twitter ad campaign. Regarding bids, Twitter provides advertisers with real-time guidance and suggestions on competitive bids during the campaign setup. As a result, the price per billable action is not a fixed grade. Twitter ads run on an auction system where advertisers bid against each other to serve ads to a target audience. There is no such thing as buying ads on Twitter. In this blog article, we will review the mechanics behind Twitter advertising, which budget you’ll need to succeed, and how to control your advertising spend. If you want to learn more so you are in the right place! And Twitter’s CPM is the lowest of all the major platforms, with an average CPM of $6.46. The good news is that Twitter has advertising solutions for businesses of all sizes and budgets. It’s all about budgets, bidding, and the goals you want to achieve through each campaign. Promoted trends, on the other hand, cost a whopping $200,000 per day.Īdvertising through social media can be hard to figure out since none of the platforms offers a direct quote.
Collection usually takes place at the test location. Drug Testing Processĭrug testing begins with the collection of a specimen-typically urine, though saliva and hair also may be tested. State laws and regulations may also require displaying drug-free workplace policies at worksites. A well-designed workplace drug policy will explain how and when testing will be conducted, and what the consequences will be for failing a test or refusing to take one. When implementing a drug-free workplace policy, it’s critical, both legally and from an employee-relations standpoint, to set clear expectations. Workplace studies have demonstrated that sound drug-free workplace policies can reduce on-the-job accidents and absenteeism and improve productivity and worker retention. Reputation. Problems with any of the preceding issues can hurt a company’s good name, as can employees who are impaired or intoxicated while representing the company.Security. Drug testing can help avoid fraud, embezzlement, or other forms of workplace theft by employees trying to finance illicit addictions.Liability. Intoxicated workers who come into contact with clients, customers, and the general public expose their employers to potential legal action. Safety. Employees under the influence of alcohol or drugs are at greater risk for industrial accidents, driving infractions and accidents, and other mishaps that endanger them and their coworkers. But whether mandatory or discretionary, virtually all drug testing addresses one or more of the following concerns: Some regulated industries require testing of employees, especially those with jobs that impact public safety. Reasons for implementing drug testing procedures vary by employer. False positive drug tests are a manageable element of workplace drug-test programs. With increased attention on testing policies, and changing guidance on how to address testing and responses to test results, comes a need for greater awareness of the strengths and weaknesses of testing procedures, including the potential for false-positive test results that can come with expansion of the type and number of drugs included in pre-employment drug screening programs. Still, employers have a legitimate concern, and an obligation, to protect the health and safety of their employees and those they come into contact with. As cannabis laws have changed around the US, employers are updating their drug screening protocols. News and World Report indicates that, according to reports from Quest Diagnostics, positive drug tests had hit their highest rates in more than a decade, with the states of Oregon, Maine, Vermont, Alabama, Louisiana and Massachusetts topping the list of positive results for urine-based drug tests.Īnother challenge that employers now face is the legalization of marijuana for both recreational and medicinal use. Reports that workers are failing workplace drug tests at the highest rates in over a decade also have many companies revisiting and updating existing policies. In this blog, we’ll explain what a false positive is on a drug test how the drug testing process works what drugs 5-panel and 10-panel tests detect the most common causes of a false positive and how to dispute a false positive drug test.Įmployee drug screenings have been standard procedure for decades in many industries, but the nation’s ongoing crisis of opiate and opioid abuse make it a growing focus for employers and HR professionals across the country. Drug testing for job candidates and employees is increasingly common, but are not always 100% accurate. The absorbed nutrients are transported in blood in the free forms for uptake by extra-intestinal tissues via specific transporters. Taurine, creatine, carnosine, anserine, and 4-hydroxyproline, as well as the products of carnosine hydrolysis (β-alanine and histidine) exit the enterocyte across its basolateral membrane into the lamina propria of the intestinal mucosa via specific transporters (Wu 2013). Inside the cell, taurine, creatinine and anserine are not degraded, some of the 4-hydroxyproline-containing peptides are hydrolyzed to 4-hydroxyproline and its peptides, some 4-hydroxyproline is oxidized to glycine, and carnosine undergoes limited catabolism. Dietary taurine, creatine, carnosine, anserine, and 4-hydroxyproline are taken up by the enterocyte across its apical membrane via specific transports. Dietary collagen is hydrolyzed by proteases, peptidases and prolidase to free amino acids as well as 4-hydroxyproline and its peptides. Red meat (including beef) is a functional food for optimizing human growth, development and health.Īmino acids Creatine Function Health Metabolites Peptides.Ībsorption of taurine, creatine, carnosine, anserine, and 4-hydroxyproline by the human small intestine and the transport of the nutrients in blood. Furthermore, these nutrients may promote the immunological defense of humans against infections by bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses (including coronavirus) through enhancing the metabolism and functions of monocytes, macrophages, and other cells of the immune system. Dietary taurine, creatine, carnosine, anserine and 4-hydroxyproline are beneficial for preventing and treating obesity, cardiovascular dysfunction, and ageing-related disorders, as well as inhibiting tumorigenesis, improving skin and bone health, ameliorating neurological abnormalities, and promoting well being in infants, children and adults. The present review provides the public with the much-needed knowledge of nutritionally and physiologically significant amino acids, dipeptides and creatine in animal-source foods (including beef). Consumption of 30 g dry beef can fully meet daily physiological needs of the healthy 70-kg adult human for taurine and carnosine, and can also provide large amounts of creatine, anserine and 4-hydroxyproline to improve human nutrition and health, including metabolic, retinal, immunological, muscular, cartilage, neurological, and cardiovascular health. Of particular note, taurine, carnosine, anserine, and creatine are absent from plants, and hydroxyproline is negligible in many plant-source foods. These five nutrients are highly abundant in beef, and have important physiological roles in anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory reactions, as well as neurological, muscular, retinal, immunological and cardiovascular function. Taurine (a sulfur-containing β-amino acid), creatine (a metabolite of arginine, glycine and methionine), carnosine (a dipeptide β-alanyl-L-histidine), and 4-hydroxyproline (an imino acid also often referred to as an amino acid) were discovered in cattle, and the discovery of anserine (a methylated product of carnosine β-alanyl-1-methyl-L-histidine) also originated with cattle. So, this is REALLY NOW the time to seriously consider a new or discounted, refurbished iPad from Apple or other Apple authorised resellers.Ī lot has happened with iPad and iOS in 7-9 years and in the past 2 to 3-1/2 years since iOS 9 and 10.Īs an example and compared to that nearly 8-years old iPad Mini model, The apps that these old iPads already have on them, and still work, will be the apps these iPads will be stuck with!īasically, these old iPad models are just good for FaceTime and somewhat limited Web browsing via some other, more up to date third party Web browsers and NOT using that nearly 4-year old iOS Safari Web browser. You will never get any more older versions of popular apps for these old iPads, any longer. Old 8 and 9-year old iPads will be pretty much obsolete by the end of the 2020 year!Īgain, it is what it is, today, in the year 2020! Older versions of apps for these older iPads will be completely gone, at some point, in the very foreseeable future. Old iPads that can no longer be upgraded/updated will have NO MORE APPS AVAILABLE for initial download, at all, soon, from the Apple iOS App Store, for such old iOS devices in the very near future. So finding older versions apps for older iPads, while still possible, currently, will be a very tough challenge, now, in 2020. These old iPads are now reaching their complete end of life and support cycles. Older versions of apps are, soon, going to be gone for good, now! Third party app developers no longer want to support these 8 and 9-year old or older iOS devices, any longer! Third party app developers are removing all of their older, legacy versions of their apps from Apple's App Store servers, now. Getting older versions of apps for these old iPad models, initially from Apple’s iOS App Store is getting very difficult and very problematic and this issue is getting, painfully, much worse, now, in 2020!Īs of the beginning of 2019, many, MANY third party app developers are all more quickly and completely permanently dropping older app support for all old 7, 8 and 9-year iPads that are running 2-3 year old and earlier iOS versions ( iOS 10 and earlier ). The amount of older, compatible, available apps for these old iPad models has dwindled significantly since the beginning of 2020! These old iPad 2, 3, 4 and 1st gen iPad Mini models are, virtually, 8 and 9-years old, now. If you need an iPad that can run the latest and greatest versions of iOS, as well as, the most current apps available, then, you need to purchase a new iPad from Apple or a discounted, refurbished iPad from Apple’s Refurbished & Clearance section of Apple’s Website or a new or refurbished iPad from an Apple authorised, third party retail or online reseller OR other trusted sources for new or used Apple products. So, that is a total of between 7-9 years of iPad/iOS support!ĪLL older iPad models, like the iPad 2, 3, 4 and 1st gen iPad Mini have, finally, reached this support limit! It is what it is, today, in the year 2020!Īpple supports new iPad models for up to 5-6 years with third party app developers supporting these iPads for another, additional 2-3 years after! These older iPad models are too old, now, too underpowered and completely incompatible with any of the current and future versions of iOS/iPadOS. I hope this information provides helpful clarity as to your available options - and the limitations of your current iPad mini.Ī 1st gen iPad Mini cannot be upgraded beyond iOS 9.3.5/9.3.6 for WiFi AND cellular data models.Ī 1st gen iPad Mini is a NEARLY 8-year old device, now! As such, if you want or need to access most current Apps, requiring more recent versions of iOS, you’ll need to consider replacement of your iPad with a newer or current model.Įven the most basic current iPad7 will massively outperform you current iPad - and is compatible with the vast majority of current Apps. As older versions of Apps are removed from the Apple App Store, you’ll not be able to (re)download or install them. You may wish to consider that compatible Apps for your iPad are increasingly difficult to find - as third-party developers are increasingly dropping support for older versions of iOS preceding iOS11/12. This limitation cannot be bypassed - in addition to which, iPad mini is a 32-bit architecture device, whilst all recent versions of iOS/iPadOS are designed for 64-bit hardware platforms. Your iPad mini cannot be updated to iOS 10 or later major versions of iOS, as the internal hardware does not meet the minimum technical requirements for new versions of iOS/iPadOS. Your very old first generation iPad mini can only be updated to iOS 9.3.5 (WiFi Only models) or iOS 9.3.6 (WiFi & Cellular models).Īpple formally ended update support for iPad mini in September 2016. |
